ERs at recent Monte Carlo World Championships

CHUCK: I just wonder if the top players are as consistent as they are being advertised.
Ray: Hell no! Most of the advertising is done by the player and as has been noted here everyone has excuses. I am quite often astonished at how badly I play over @ Grid Gammon. 7 to 11 is not rare, in fact it is the rule. I look at the mistakes file mental notes and try to "peak" before events like Vegas, LA, Monte Carlo... I just can't stand to study hard all the time anymore. There are a few reasons/excuses for bad play over at GG that I needn't go into here. Youth and hunger help and computer savvy is an asset. Stick and MCG have all three.
One guy who seems to play consistently well over there is Richard Munitz. His rating is perpetually over 1900 and up to nearly 2000. For reference a 2000 rating will have you in the top 3 of all players, 1900 in the top 30. I think he plays more consistently well than I do, especially against the weaker players. My rating is currently 1830, I have been unlucky during the last month, I think.
Invariably, when I get mad and get serious and my error rate drops down, my rating goes back up. I have seen Kit Woolsey in the 1700s and up to well over 2000, and I voted him as the #1 giant last time.
