Another couple of comments I forgot to include in the earlier post -- the wife was calling me to dinner.
Anyway, I thought it particularly unfortunate that the new, rookie director was subjected to such unreasonable behavior by a player. I'm appreciative of the hard work and tremendous efforts by a number of parties to organize and run the tournament. Overall, it was a very good tournament. A great venue, wonderful hotel, etc. Hopefully, the controversy won't dampen their enthusiasm to continue in future years.
Also, I found it interesting hanging around during all the controversy. During one of the times the directors were talking with Ray out in the hall I told Malcolm that Chris Knapp and I had recorded our matches with Ray and the conditions agreed upon. When the director came back in and was getting ready to issue his ruling in a discussion with both players he said that Ray had told him he was intimidated by playing while being recorded. Malcolm objected and stated that Ray had allowed me and Chris to record our matches with him. Ray then stated that he had told the director that OTHERS COULD be intimidated by recording. The director said no, Ray, you told me you were intimidated. I don't know who was right but both were adamant -- Ray in claiming what he'd said, the director in claiming what he'd been told.
I was disappointed that since the director stated plainly to both, and to the several of us nearby, that next year the event would fully allow recording and would so state in the flyer, that he then ruled as he did and had them roll for the right Saturday night.
