I'll Kick it Off -- Recording Controversy in Atlanta

Well guess its my turn to wade into this, I think this is probably the best response in the thread to put it.
Ray was my first match and first "recording", (I had anticipated my "trial recording" was going to be in the doubles, but circumstances prevented that) I didn't see anything unusual in the request for copies of the matches, provided my future opponents didn't object. Of the next 4 matches, 2 said it was fine if I give the matches away, one asked for a copy, but "prefered" if I kept it to myself, the last didnt want a copy, nor really cared if I gave it away, however on Sunday after hearing about the kerfuffle ask I not give it to Ray. In my case, still a novice in the video realm, I was very accomidating for the request as made.
However, one of the reasons Ray did mentioned for his request, was if other people are building up a library on him, then it should be only fitting he can do the same. This was the only thing that stuck me as odd later. First off, my intent for going to recording and analysis of live events, is to extrapolate my study to the next level. Meaning, I know the type of mistakes I tend to make when playing GNU, I've been running my online matches to see how I well I'm learning to fix/apply what I pick up playing the computer (OR NOT, in many cases) and now also how well that may (or maynot) hold true when your OTB live.... really, how much affect does, no displayed pip counts, the longer time between move/thinking pace, and in general "real" people and tourney pressures. (gamesmanship, late night matches, slow players/clocked matches, spectator distractions, personality quicks etc...) What bad habits you fall back into.
My next thoughts were, the library aspect of it... 1) If I give him all the copies.. really the only one he builds up an effective database on would be me, and I dont think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out not only how often I eat at BK, but go for the Smorgadsboard. 2) I'm doing it to try and work on my own play and mistakes and in my ABT play database, my opponent is really only transparent as I try and deal with error repeatition issues. 3) How good, how dedicated and how much time would it take to actually use this about another player? Are you going to spend all friday night studying the field? Skip out between matches (and how often is it only 10 min or so between matches during the session?) and/or write off dinner/evening breaks, boning up on your next possible opponent or oppoenent(s) if your ahead in the bracket? 4) How good would you have to be to actually make it worthwhile? Most people have a "fair" idea if the are better/worse than there opponent in checker and/or cube in general, to try to figure out an intricate flaw in someone else's game AND how to "capitialize" on it, particularily if you only have a game or two to see and/or how long ago it was, and even know if their game has improved and trying to capialize could backfire in your face??? Well.... I'll leave that to the elite world class chess grandmasters!
So that being said, I can't see this type request being because of wanting to build there own personally library (or they would be invested in the time and equipment to do it on their own) I cant say if it was an attempt at gamemanship, (again being a video rookie, its hard to be one upped at gamesmanship, when you haven't yet even learned what the game is!) OR is there a lingering issue about Malcolm's extensive library (and that maybe there is someone out that that can do this) OR are we just reading a whole bunch into another unfortunate ABT event drama, and trying to make a mountain out of a molehill?!?!?!
Bottom line, I feel everyone should be entitled to record there own matches, regardless, we are paying to play! I also believe that the opponent is entitled to have ownership of the match as well, either in getting a copy of there opwn matches and/or if they want the match to be available to the public.
