Hitting loose low in backgames is thematic, as is not covering the blot. I see no compelling reason to sway from that principle here.

John's play (repeated by others) makes sense, too. It's a compromise between keeping your builders for the full prime in place and not sending extra opp checkers back. And that's why rew found this position worth posting, I'm guessing.
