I agree, Gregg; it is just an inherent problem with the two start event.

Maybe it should just be standard policy that there will be no byes given in the early start -- since the early start is typically a convenience for those wishing to play doubles. If the bracket is not totally filled at the late start -- by late entries and rebuys -- then byes will be given and/or the bracket trimmed at that time. Those requesting the early start time would know beforehand, and would accept, the risk of not getting a bye -- thus having no reason to complain.
