OK, I'm still learning limit where you get great odds quite often. I see the problem I created by calling.
So now the pot contains 10 "little" bets (again I'm probably using the wrong nomenclature) and all you can do right now is make a little bet. You won't likely get any folds but you might get a reraise (or two).
This is a subtlety (IMO) characteristic of Limit -- you can't bet much on the flop. So at best you're increasing the pot by a small amount. (I.e. it's hard to push anyone out of the hand.) As a result you can't glean much info no matter what happens. Am I right?
Thus, IMO, you haven't learned much more about your opp's hands from their failure to bet, and you won't learn much if you bet. You should bet if you think you have the best hand. But suppose you want to give the impression you have a great hand. Should you bet or trap? Same goes for your opponents -- they may have checked as a trap (which they won't spring until the turn). Tell me if I'm completely out of it, BTW.
I guess I bet because (with help) you might push out an inside straight hand. You might have the best hand but it's hard to tell at this point. The ace was a scarecard (although, again, not that scary at this point in the hand).
