I will state that although from a World Championships final,it would be a mistake to assume that because finalist's made these plays they don't include gigantic whoppers
I think most here have seen some of the ERs from the WCs and nobody will be surprised to see error/blunder/super blunder combos. Also, if you're giving it out as a quiz, maybe they are tough plays, only time will tell.
I will also have a time limit.
I will survive but personally I dislike a rushed time frame. Within' the scope of a lecture & the time frame you have you must enforce some sort of time constraints but if a challenging play comes up OtB and I need to use 40% of my clock on it I will as I've posted on here before. It's also possible that I'll be the first one done w/the quiz =)
for those needing an incentive to get up early on Monday, the quiz will be graded according to the error rates from Snowie rollouts
Good to know in case I need to tailor my opening 3 moves according to bot. SW & GNU don't disagree often but those rare occassions do come up like 41$-11, 21$-21, etc... I make no promise I'll be able to be awake (nevertheless coherent) two days in a row but I'll do my best. Maybe if UBK attends on Monday he'll kick me on the way.
Would anyone care t0 venture what the winner's total errors will add up to? Does anyone think it will be 0?
Zero.
Marv: One future tweak that I'd make in the format is not announce where the plays originated.
While he did state the opening sequence was from the WC's he didn't say what year. Perhaps you took it as an implied "the last WC" but I didn't. I don't think he did any damage to the quiz by mentioning what tournament it came from as long as the year or player's aren't mentioned beforehand.
2) Stick already has the first 5 moves of any backgammon game committed to memory, so if there are 3 reasonable moves on the 6th play in this particular game, you have to figure his chances of getting it right are at least 25%
I wish. Not because I don't plan on doing it but because I haven't had the time. I'm barely into the 3rd move. I do think it's possible to memorize everything though up to move X even though comprehension is a better route. I take a splash of both, mix it together, and hope my dice are hot that weekend.
