Bad Beat (aka... where'd my 35 points go?) & Another Unfair Assumption

I just want to say that the guy I pointed out to Bill, and to several others, is the guy who Carter caught in possession of my board. According to Bill Davis, he is Russian. We do not know that he actually stole the board, only that he was in possession of it. He does board repair work, so he would be in a position to come across a stolen board.

That's all we know, so based upon that, I don't think it would be fair to bar him from attendance at a tournament.

I think the best thing we can all do is ask the tournament directors to make it a standard policy of stating in their brochures and announcing that anyone caught stealing property will be permanently banned from future participation in their tournament.

I think that will help.

Something else happened at the tournament which I don't think was quite fair, and it supports Rod and Joe's argument about racial stereotyping. Bill Bartholemule (not sure I spelled that correctly) complained to Howard that the "Russians" screwed him on his hedge. Apparently they played a doubles match in the semi finals and agreed that the loser would receive 25%. Apparently they went on to win the finals and Bill B claimed that he was owed 25% of their total win. The premise of course was that they exchanged 25% of each other, which I kind of doubt. The "Russians" insisted that was not the agreement. Howard immediately supported Bill B and demanded that they pay up the additional money.

I wasn't involved (other than I was playing a match with Bill B.) but I thought it was definitely unfair that Howard interjected himself into the matter, and it is not so clear that the "Russians" were wrong and that Bill was right.
