Containment concepts

Not my area of expertise, but the bots have taught me (rightly or wrongly) that the outfield gets priority, while watching out for opp's best numbers. Given that let's look at a couple issues.

1) How about 13/6? It takes a checker off a stack and it puts a nice builder in place for the homeboard. The problem is that right now the focus should be on the outfield, not the homeboard.

2) 14/12 (with some other checker moved five pips). A nice place for a builder, EXCEPT 4-4 now becomes pretty good for White. Secondarily, the 14-point isn't a bad place for that checker already.

3) 21/16 (with some other checker moved two pips). Blocks 4-4 -- usually a good thing to block opp's big doubles. But here you don't need to block 4-4 because it doesn't get home and, if Blue plays carefully, White's checker after 4-4 becomes a triple shot.

4) 16/11, 21/19. This is looking better. Get off the 16-point in case opp rolls the 4-4 (so as not to get hit) while splitting the back checkers making White 4-4 a triple shot. Also important from the 16/11 part, now you have five checkers aimed at most of Blue's outfield -- good for hitting and making the outside prime.

The strategy was to give yourself the best chance to snare White in the outfields while also getting in position to work on the outside prime. The tactics used included making sure you can handle White's big double.

(After all that, hopefully my choice is close to the best play.)
