In Response To: Wanted: Your 2 Cents - US Giants List (Bill Finneran)

Thanks, Bill, and I'll send props to Michael Darooge who provides www.backgames.org which I use for the stats now. Although I used to keep the same ELO with my own program, Michael's site adds lots of extra features like ratings graphs and nemesis reports. BTW, the stats will eventually be updated for the three tournaments held since the last update there of March 15. A certain guest director, who shall go nameless, failed to get last names of about 4 new players and after a burdensome investigation I only got 3 of the 4 last names, and Michael's site does not allow you to change the name once you add a new player. So if Matthew does not show up in one of the June tourneys I will enter him with a fabricated last name and get the stats up to date. (Matthew Shackleford maybe?)

Rainer is an excellent player and of the more regularly-attending players prior to us moving across the Potomac to Virginia I always feared drawing he and Ed Maslansky the most. I think he had a streak of real bad luck the last year or so before he moved that dragged his rating and won-lost percentage down and that can happen to anybody.

I believe that you may have even called me a sandbagger at one point, despite my 0 lifetime ABT points, so that's why I went and won in Baltimore last year at my first crack at Open. Now I have nowhere to go but down. :-)

Yeah we are all hoping to lower Ed O's winning percentage, that is why I instituted clocks at the club- I can't tolerate the best player also being the slowest, but so far our attempts to slow him down by speeding him up are not working so well! :-)

But you are right it takes hundreds of matches to provide a decent sample, otherwise I could argue that my 4-3 lifetime record against Ed O (including 2-0 in ABT), my 4-3 lifetime record against UBK, my 1-0 lifetime record against Petko, MCG and Kent Goulding would qualify me for the notables list. My only blemish is a 0-2 mark against Ray Fogerlund but I think he might tell you that he likes my game because he doesn't steal chicken points from me. (He steals 4 at a time from me on doubled gammons!)

But I'll be the first to admit I shouldn't be considered as more than a flash in a pan until I cash again, nor do I play nearly enough ABT events to be considered. And besides, Perry said it should be a minimum 32 player event to be considered and there were only 31 in the Open field at Baltimore. DOH!!! I will also thank those unnamed boogoliners who read this far for not publicizing one of the most monstrous whopper passes in bg history in Pittsburgh that might give me a lifetime disqualification from consideration. (I did it to lower my future calcutta buybacks).
