While attendence is not what any of us would like, take a look at the calendar of ABT events in its entirety. There are enough of them that it is very difficult to find a time to hold one that isn't the week before or after another ABT event. Linda's Illinois tournament is two weeks after Colorado and one week before Maryland. And, there really isn't any date that works better. I find it amazing that there are so many people wanting to hold tournaments considering the work and financial losses involved. But, there really is a large selection considering overall attendence levels.

What would be better - fewer tournaments with higher average attendence? Or more tournaments with lower average attendence? I have mixed feelings. But, in some respects, the size of the country argues for lots of tournaments with smaller numbers to reduce some of the travel needed. I might prefer going to eight smaller Midwest tournaments rather than eight large tournaments spread in all corners of the land. In Europe, with shorter travel times, the opposite model makes more sense.
