I can't argue with many of your points, Barry.
However, I will say that those who profess to favor the promotion of backgammon and then won't attend an ABT tourney in there own backyard lose a lot of credibility in my book -- especially when they've travelled to play in other ABT tourneys.
I take even greater exception with those who feel it is not enough to not attend a certain ABT tourney but also feel compelled to denigrate the tourney in an attempt to influence the attendance of others.
This forum is much like real life -- you find a bit of everything. There is great discussion by prominent players on interesting, intriguing, and difficult plays -- this is of interest to all and quite informative, and entertaining. There is considerable discussion on other backgammon issues, and some off topic issues. Some, perhaps, cross the line at times -- I've no doubt done so, as I've also been the target at times. But, it's life. Buck up.
Sure, Ray, and others, had some fun at Al Faller's expense -- but I think it was all good-natured. Al seemed to be having plenty of fun at his own expense in Pittsburgh -- he knew he was a mediocre player on an all time run against a number of world class players. I'm certain he enjoyed the play and the attention. And I know any of those same guys would give him pointers, explanations, help, etc. at tournaments or on this forum at any time.
