Letīs cool down and drop the subject. The US Open 2009 is over.
Some didnīt attend. They might have reasons (valid or not). Thatīs fine. No big deal.
Some others attended and obviously had fun. Even better !
I lost money. Again, no big deal.
Next year, next edition. Hopefully bigger and better.
One thing I have learned in almost a decade of backgammon organization: Youīll never satisfy every body. Itīs simply an impossibility. And believe me, in Europe, itīs even worse. I have had complaints from players having to pay 120 (yes, thatīs almost $480) registration fee for entering a tournament where they get in return:
- a wonderful playing room
- high class tabletop boards to play on
- a dice-service provided by the staff
- a top notch staff
- free entrance to the casino facilities (itīs not usual to get free access to casinos in Europe)
- a daily allowance of 50 (thatīs $70) on drinks in the casino
- an unmatched gala-dinner and awards ceremony with a 12 man live band playing
- over 30 trophies (the main trophies alone cost 2,500 - thatīs $3.5k)
- and an unimporant amount of 50,000 (yes, thatīs $70.000) added money to the pot
And still, some complain. I rest my case and I ask myself if I should shoot a few and go to jail or just shut up and let them bitch. I took second option so far.
