My type disgusts him

No, you were inaccurate. And, that is the source of the problem. There were two known instances of theft - a board and a chouette stiff. The name of the stiff was known. The name of the board thief was also known. But, Bill didn't recall the latter. He only recalled the general ethnicity of the name. He wondered aloud if the two thiefs could have been one since he thought the name may have been the same. That's relevant since in that instance barring the board thief would have prevented the stiff. (In fact, these were two different individuals.) You responded -
Joe: It's one thing to care about theft and quite another to infer guilt based on a similarity of names -- even though notion that all Russian (or Slavic) names are "similar" is offensive. It probably has nothing to do with race, but plenty to do with prejudice.
Bill did not infer guilt based on a similarity of names. Guilt had already been established. Both individuals were known to be guilty. It was also known that both individuals had Eastern European names. This was a fact, not the projection of a prejudiced mind. The issue that Bill raised was whether there was one individual or two which was relevant to the discussion. You then add:
Joe: Actually, you prove my point -- get the facts straight before you convict someone, or in this case cast aspersions.
This is particularly ironical because you accuse Bill of what you are doing yourself - casting aspersions before getting the facts straight.
It is offensive to have you projecting things onto Bill that he didn't say in an attempt to put him in a bad light.
