Janowski uses a related number (2/3) for his $-game algorithms. I thought 0.7 was easier to work with than 2/3 so I tried it. As John says, it works. BTW, it also incorporates taker's gammon wins (if they even have meaning) so you don't need to include those in any calculation, only doubler's gammon wins.
I've been trying to work up an 'article' on this but it probably takes a whole book. :) This problem is a good one which I've already modified into about a dozen variations to find the perfect cube efficiency point (i.e. when equity is same whether take or pass). That is to address the inefficient cube situation John describes. I think those don't come off nearly as often as most people think, but I can't prove that right now. It takes a LOT of study and who (besides Stick) has that much free time?
