In Response To: Its a start (Coolrey)

I don't understand why anyone would risk undermining a good idea by forcing it or pressuring others to accept it. Have you put yourself in the shoes of others? Some specific examples:

1) "Change the ABT points system..." Why? Bill Davis built this system, campaigned for its acceptance, keeps track of it and publishes the results on his website. He gets (beautiful) trophies made and hands them out. It's Bill's system -- let HIM do with it what he wants. If you have a system that you like better, YOU put it into practice in parallel. Multiple rewards/recognition systems CAN coexist.

2) "Charge ALL players $X at every Ty and get the director's to collect the money." Tax the players whether they like it or not? Force the directors to do MORE work, even those who might already be questioning whether the system itself will hurt attendance?

3) "Put everyone's stats out there for all to see." I think it's pretty easy to conclude that 99% of the top players have no problem with their ratings being posted for all to see. Has anyone asked the bottom players? OK, there have been some ideas here to only publish the top of the list. Maybe everyone over a certain rating (1550?). Kudos to the golden rule followers on this one. However, keep in mind that system security could be a tough or expensive task. ("Ratings System, my name is Stick Rice. What's my rating?" .... "Thanks, SUCKER!") How many people get access to the master list?

Enough for Golden Rule 1. How about 1a ("Those who fail to learn from history...")

A BG ratings system isn't a new idea and it isn't the first time it's been discussed on a forum. It hasn't exactly flourished. Has anyone talked to KG? At least finally Matt is speaking up and I hope people are listening to him. I'm going to bug the piss out of him in Novi until I'm satisfied I've squeezed everything I can out of his experience. (I'll compensate with beer.)

1b (trite but true) "He who has the gold makes the rules".

Here "gold" can be $ or hard work. I do see some volunteering time and others money. That's what this task needs -- resources. I'm glad to see that ideas are being passed freely but in the end it's going to be the one's who put in the effort who decide what/how it works. I just hope they go the extra mile to make good use of GR's 1 and 1a above.
