While I certainly understand the points that both Neil and Stick make I'm not so sure I agree.

As far as a "gentleman's game *cough cough, gentle person's?* how is it that blaming someone for holding you accountable for your own actions, i.e. the premature roll, is gentlemanly? I have made my fair share of mistakes including using my opening 3-1 to use my opponents checkers to make their five point for them. Did I get angry when they made me leave the play? Nope, I accepted my own stupidity, refocused on the game, and quit being sloppy with my play.

White has no one to blame but themselves for rolling fast and thus are responsible for violating the rules, no matter if the oppys move was forced or not.

Now, what would I do if I were black? I would like to say that I would let the roll stand but I dont know if I would or not. I had a discussion about somewhat of a similar situation with a tournament director that you all know and love and his response was that you have a responsibility to those people who bought you in the calcutta to utilize every legal means you have to win the match including following the letter of the rules when your oppy makes a mistake. I spoke with another well respected player (I'm sure you all can guess who) who said that was BS. That you have NO responsibility to the calcutta owners.

I can tell you that I have had oppys who fast roll in these situations and I ALWAYS stop it as soon as it starts.. mostly cause it pisses me off and also because Kit has drilled it into me to make oppys knock it off so such a situation does not happen.

So, even though I'm avoiding the director part of the question and dont know what I would do as black, I can tell you what I would do if I were white and black asked for a directors ruling and that ruling went against me. I would take responsiblity for my own behavior, bite my tongue and make sure I NEVER fast rolled again. Would I be pissed at being held to the rules? NO! It's a bitter lesson but who do I have to blame but myself? Would I be happy to play my oppy ever again? Not likely but I would certainly act professionally as I could and try not to go all emotional over seeing them across the board. Why give them that power? Would they ever be my friend? I doubt it seriously. But would I blame them for holding me to the rules... Not on your life! That was MY responsibility and MY failure.
