Beating the dead horse

I am still very concerned that stories like this that seem to be coming out of each and every tournament will serve to taint the public's perception of clock play. I am now officially a proponent of 2.5/12 for the 2010 year as clocks get rolled out to the mainstream. Let people get used to it. See if tournaments still run on schedule. Tighten it up if delays result. But don't turn people off of clocks by making them play under these conditions from the outset. Even if it is their own fault.
Sorry, I disagree. There have been scads of matches played in recent ABT events at 2/12. Timeouts are rare. Time pressures are usually a result of actual slow play, or slow mechanics (8 seconds to roll the dice), or misunderstanding what real time pressure is (witness my story a while back about Hugh Sconyers in LA).
If you think the time control should ultimately be 2.5/12, then that's a different argument. But I do not like the idea of playing now under one time control and then changing it. People don't have THAT much trouble with the mechanics. What they're getting used to is the appropriate pace for 2/12.
