hybrid play-from-here technique

I've been slowly playing this out (after Blue stacks the 4-point with 6-4) in the following manner using GNU-bg:
Start off playing BOTH sides since I've seen GNU-bg make some VERY STRANGE plays with both sides at 2-ply and (not as bad, but still) at 3-ply. Either I lose or I reach a position where I'm pretty sure GNU-bg understands (and can play the remainder better than I can). At that point I either use GNU-bg's evals (must have concensus from odd and even plies agreeing within 1%) or do a rollout.
Typically I hold the reins until White has at least four homeboard points plus a White checker on the bar. I'm finding out some interesting things even with these rollouts which I plan on sharing when I get a chance.
BTW, for those who have played this position, I believe White's proper GP is to concentrate on blocking the big doubles AND start making homeboard points. Stick was trying to make and then snake a 5-prime and from what I've seen from limited trials, this is extremely difficult (i.e. unproductive). Then again there were four of us trying to snake this position: Neil Garvie, Stick, me, and Jim Beam.
