I agree. It can be invigorating to stand up to someone obnoxious and meet force with force but, as you said, an excess of adrenaline will shut the thinking brain down in favour of enhancing the animal brain's performance. Those players who mention using the amusement approach do better because it confounds the asshole without stirring the player. I'm not sure which would be more satisfying (I imagine facing the boor down) but a refusal to be intimidated shown by relaxed laughter at the asshole is probably better for the backgammon.
