But lets say that somebody who has gotten it right a hundred times before made a honest human error and just accidentally wrote the wrong match length on the wrong sheet. And lets say that the mistake is realized 15 minutes after the sheet is posted and matches have already begun playing to the shorter match length. What SHOULD have been done at that point?
OK, so human error can occur, we all make mistakes. Let's see if they exercised due diligence.
Since the conditions of the tournament should be posted beforehand (this IS ostensibly the World Championship of Backgammon), the match length of the consolation would be indicated on the tournament flier. I am looking at a flier right now, and match lengths are not written on them, nor are they posted at http://www.backgammon-tournaments.com/
IF the match lengths were posted or announced beforehand, at least one sharp eye would have caught the mistake right away.
I don't see how you could change the match length in the middle of the match. If the tournament organizers announced seven points, it has to be seven points. Decisions are made with the score in mind (this IS ostensibly the World Championship of Backgammon, thereby attracting the world's BEST players, who make decisions accordingly) -- how can you just change it midstream?
