To all who think that security is the "key" to happiness (very OT now):

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." (Benjamin Franklin, 1775)
I'm sorry to say so but I can't imagine another reason for
-taking my fingerprints (happens)
-taking a digital picture of me (happens)
-screening my personal computer (happens)
-screening my credit card information (happens)
-screening the internet for information about me (happens)
-screening my bank account transfers (planned contract with the EU)
-screening my communication profile (planned contract with the EU in combination with the "data retention directive")
than getting total control over me, my doing, my behaviour and my thoughts. Why not taking the DNA of everyone, it should help to secure against terrorism and crime? Why not implanting an RFID chip into everyone, it should help the security? Arguments against it? Yes, plenty of course, but you can use all these arguments also against the already implemented mechanism listed above.
This same shit starts here in Germany but luckily enough we still have some respected citizens who fight against abusive data retention, surveillance, eavesdropping and monitoring.
I basically can understand the wish to safeness of US citizens after 9/11. But those who accept all these new restrictions in the "free" world should know two things:
Osama bin Laden was feeded and educated by the Government of the U.S.A. in a time when he was useful for them. And the Government also had all information to prevent 9/11. The problem wasn't the lack of information, they had too much to deal with!
Ciao
Achim
PS. I noticed a funny thing here in Germany regarding the "control of the internet": Our Governments also used the war against terrorism as an argument before. After a while they recognized that this wasn't accepted by our citizens. Now they switched to the "war against child pornography".
