Somewhat reduced gammon risk and greater gammon reward for blue at score increases the incentive to make the 4 here. And with whites blot on the mid about to be cleared the escape will be easier later if blue can roll a 4. It also seems white may have flexibility issues if he can't make the 22 pt he may have to drop blots on the 1 or 2 pts to buy time which will make attacking more difficult. All of which combine to give me a slight preference to staying back here. After 8/4 I slightly prefer 11/9 over 8/6 as it will result in smoother play going forward and is blocked on 4s which will be played to escape.
