I last played in Prague in one of the tournaments Michael Meyburg used to run. It is a beautiful city and I thoroughly recommend it.

On the down side visitors are warned as to a number of dangers:-

1) Pickpockets - There are active gangs of pickpockets operating mainly on trams and in public tourist spots. I witnessed one of these gangs in operation where they effectively encircle the victim on a tram and bump against him/her. It was a fairly obvious manoeuvre that the victim spotted. Just being street smart and not getting into a crowd should keep you safe.

2) Exchange scam - During my 5 day stay I was approached at least a dozen times to sell sterling/euros/dollars at an unbelieveably favourable rate to a random passer by. The scam is that the currency being offered was discontinued about five years ago and is worthless! Sadly it looks almost identical to the new currency. My view is if you are foolish enough to engage in such a transaction then you get what you deserve!

3) Taxis - Run by the Mafia. The 'turbometer' can rack up some extortionate fares. Avoid by getting the hotel to arrange transportation. Also you can pre-book your transit from the airport with a reputable operator.

I plan to be in Prague for this one. It is a great destination just be alert.
