Risk aversion

I have a better suggestion. Learn to make fair settlements. That is a generally better strategy to reduce risk than continuously and intentionally making errors in checker and cube decisions because you are afraid of the risks due to the stakes.
Suggestion 2. Don't play for stakes that you would not be comfortable losing 100 points in a single session.
Suggestion 3: If you can't make a fair settlement, put your fears aside and risk the big loss (or win), and play your best game. I can tell you from personal experience that the saying "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" is very true here. It is probably true that the fear and potential damage to pride of taking a beating is larger than the actual real life impact of the monetary loss. Will you not be able to make a mortgage payment because you had that bad game? Doubtful that is the case. So play through it and discover that the outcome is not the end of the world (or get rewarded big). And the next time, you'll play with the confidence and strength of having survived a big one before and not piss away equity.
