Stick's simple explanation says a lot. The problem with TMP (often) is that you are left with only one spare. Try it sometime. You'll be amazed at how awkardly your next few rolls play. I.e. it's not just uncomfortable for one roll but for several. There are,as with any BG generalization, exceptions.
