Definition of luck-to-skill ratio

I think when we talk about an average Open or Intermediate player we are not talking about anyone that rightfully belongs in the Beginner division.
I recall reading somewhere that the ER of a player that makes random moves is about 60. I'm not sure if that includes cube errors. There's a finite chance that the luck factor in an 11 point match may be larger than 60 in favor of the clueless player, but I have difficulty imagining it.
Don't underestimate the potential of a young child that just learned the rules. When my now 11 year old son was 7 and playing his third game of backgammon, he figured out completely on his own the idea that it might be good to intentionally get stacks of forward checkers hit to put them to better use elsewhere on the board. My chin nearly hit the table hearing him describe the concept of recirculation. It kills me that this was the last time he ever played backgammon. No interest whatsoever.
