Time limits

This topic has been discussed A LOT here. I believe I'm in the minority (here, maybe not globally). My feelings are this:
1) We need more data. And the data we need isn't the common (well, the Danes do it this way and it works, so....) I have the highest respect for Danish backgammon and my disdain for this argument has nothing to do with Danes.
2) The clock settings should be determined by time available. If one tournament needs to have matches completed in 2.5 hours, besides choosing an appropriate matchlength the clock settings should also be tailored to completing most matches (most being 98% or something large like that) in the allotted time, INCLUDING allowing time for finding opp's, mid-match breaks, and reporting scores. Similarly, if 3 hour or 4 hour rounds are appropriate, loosen the settings (along with increasing the points-to-win).
1-2 conclusion: Vary the time limits (and matchlengths in terms of points-to-win) and collect data on the time it takes to complete matches.
3) The best way to lower the variance is (IMO) to adjust the reserve time, not the per move time. So for singles I like the 12s/move but feel the 2 min / matchpoint should be the thing that gets adjusted. For doubles, I personally opine that 18s is too much. 15s seems like a nice compromise. But again, for doubles I would go AT LEAST 3 min / matchpoint reserve and maybe even higher (lest anyone thinks I prefer 15s/2.5min). Those are my current feelings but that could change in the future.
4) There is no rational reason (but probably several irrational ones) that we have to take up the banner that whatever we set now must stay that way forever. But on the other side of that argument, first used has a big advantage (not necessarily rational, though).
Will my suggestions be accepted? You should be able to get at least 1000::1 if you say 'yes', but it would probably be unwise to settle for that.
