I really believe the best chance for real improvement to the game must come from the players...

As long as I can remember (in 23 years of active tournament backgammon) what is happening now with clocks is the only phenomena I can recall being instigated by the masses. No question we have the support of the tournament directors but they were moving at a snail's pace (and I'm not going to argue that they didn't have reasons for this -- major concern that the players would be against it. We gave them the support they were looking for.)

Let's not stop now.
