It seems the tradeoff is between leaving a blot later on the 8-point and actually getting a chance to play 8/5. Qualitatively, sure, but quantitatively it doesn't seem like you should gain 0.1+ to me.

Since I'm finally finished rolling out the over-hyped splot 52D43D43 I'll now put that comp to work running this position at 3-ply. 2-ply should do well here since the backgame is well along, but you never know. (Or more correctly, "I never know".)
