In Response To: Backgammon community loses a great one... (Chuck Bower)

The saddest of news. I will miss him sorely. I first met Walter at Yamin Yamin's tournament in Indiana (circa 1990). He was very friendly in querying the early version of DoubleTakeCalculator (match equity calculations based on Kit's "Tournament Backgammon"). His questions helped the developer and me to hone it into be a more useful tool. I still use it.

A great sense of humor, a contemplative genius, and his awesome "Backgammon Bootcamp" (near and dear to my reading table) will always remind us of the man as well as his contributions.

Walter contributed not only his writings and playing to our backgammon community, but he also exemplified the compleat (intentional spelling) gentleman over-the-board and in person. I was lucky to have known him and even got to play against him at several Las Vegas tournaments.

A great loss, both to humanity and the backgammon world. My sincere condolences to his wife Donna and the rest of Walter's family.
