Another Issue for Tournament Directors

In Response To: Another Issue for Tournament Directors (Phil Simborg)

As far as allowing such by mutual agreement, I'm in favor. However (and this is somewhat dependent on my feelings of accepting such an offer) there are a couple issues which I believe need to be resolved. These involve the use of a single laptop:

1) One player has his homeboard on the bottom and the other on the top. It takes some getting used to (and I include myself as one of those not accustomed to it) to play equally well in both seats.

2) If one laptop, who enters the plays? Again, as I've seen it done previously, this situation isn't symmetric.

3) Clock usage? Do you just use a physical clock? With the tournament advised settings?

4) Do the players sit side-by-side? This would have to be accommodated at the tournament venue.

If two laptops could be networked then #1 and #2 become moot.

IMO, rather than to play on a bot, there is at least one big advantage to playing at an online site -- the match can be kibitzed by as many spectators as would like, and they don't have to be at the tournament. (I don't know if its possible to turn off the pipcounter... -- detail.)

I bring these points up NOT to oppose your plan but rather to see that it gets implemented smoothly. The directors are going to be asking such questions, not just your opponents. I do think they can all be resolved (some rather easily) but they need to be addressed.
