I think there are some things that could limit cheating but take away from the pleasure of playing backgammon. The backgammon clock with a button that "rolls" the dice and shows you 2 numbers on a lcd display is a good example I think.

I've played with baffle boxes and I'm not a great fan of the mechanics of using them. There are many more (and easier) opportunities away from the actual roll to cheat I think.
