After Madison, my feelings on the baffle-tube, Part 1

Is there any difficulty in using a baffle-box with a board that it wasn't designed for? Or is it a one-size-fits-all kind of thing?
The tube thing just seems goofy to me. Do you put the thing on the board or off to the side? It looks like it would be easy to topple over. Somehow I think if non-backgammon players saw us playing with the tube I bet they would laugh at us. And cocking (dice stuck in the tube) 10% of the time is WAY too much. It should be basically impossible to cock the dice, but I assume this is just a tube/sticks/dice size issue that needs to be tweaked.
I'm still of the opinion that all these 'remedies' are worse than the disease, and take away from the esthetics and pleasure of the game.
