Instead, I cam up with an idea that I think is a great improvement over the Calcutta. I suggest that every player who enters the tournament is given the option to place a bet (up to half of the entry fee amount) on any player he wants. The bet is that the player will win, come in 2nd, or win consolation.

I dont see how replacing the Calcutta, (which is a grey zone issue) with a para-mutual betting system would not be even a greater gambling red flag!

Furthermore, I'm pretty sure most "directors" dont understand the ins and outs of in essence being the bookie, and even if they did, I cwould bet my bottom dollar it would be a huge increase in the amount of work needed to manage and track the action over how the calcutta's are administered!
