So, you think you've caught me with an inconsistency. :) Maybe you have.

If I were to have a pencil and paper at the table and wrote down intermediate values of the pipcount while taking one, I would be reprimanded (told to stop, if necessary by the director) as this violates the "no external aids" rule. I don't believe (but could be wrong) that it's OK to do this if the players mutually agree to do it. (Is it?)

Pipcounter on a computer screen is a violation of this same rule.
