Here is the biggest problem with the Giant voting: we are not given clear guidlines as to what we are voting for. It could be for the players we think are the best, or it could be for the players we think are the best active players...big difference. How can we judge Levermann and Grandell and Magriel and Snelling and Robertie and Goulding, and Sylvester and Wells and all the others who we know are great but seldom play? Should they be included in our votes? What constitutes an "active" player....is there a certain number of tournaments that would make them eligible? Where do I put Ballard and Senk, who only play occasionally but I know to be among the best....should I put them lower or leave him off completely?

Are we supposed to vote for the player we think is most likely to win a match against anyone else, or are we supposed to vote for someone who we think would have the lowest ER?

Are we supposed to elevate people who we respect for their sportsmanship and contribution to the game and devalue people we don't respect?

How in the world can I, here in the U.S., make a reasonable judgment about players on the other side of the world I have never seen play? Since I know that the European voters are more likely to pack their ballots with European players, should I make sure to pack mine with US players to compensate?

Here in the US we know Stick and MCG are among the best in the world, but they haven't proven it with tournament wins as yet....should they be recognized for their proven skills, or only if they have proven results?

So without these guidelines, it is LARGELY a popularity contest and certainly not a truly fair vote, since we are all using our own criteria. In view of this, I have always taken the voting and results with a grain of salt. If there were more clearcut criteria, and votes for people outside the criteria were thrown out, the Giant list would be much more meaningful.

In the meantime, based on so much of what I've read, I'm voting for Tim Mabee, Scott Casty, and Taki.
