I played him live on two occasions...I goaded him into it....I told him I wanted to play a short match on Snowie and discuss our plays the way we would with students (at the time, we were both giving lessons on line on Microsoft Zone...he was giving lessons to the "advanced" players and I was giving lessons to beginners and intermediates.)
One 3 point match his ER was over 12....he made all kinds of excuses and apologies and claimed he was very tired from staying up all night working on positions for a lecture or something.
The other time, he quit before we finished because he again was tired, but before quitting, he made some horrible plays.
However, recently when he showed up at Ken's club in Durham, NC he actually did very well there....so he's either learned something these past few years or he's found a way to cheat when he plays live.
The funny thing is, he wasn't a bad teacher or writer...he read a lot of the right books and quoted them pretty well and applicable to the situation.
I don't know all the details, but in addition to cheating on line with his play, he also cheated in my on-line chouette; he cheated by betting on props with me and many others; and I understand he was caught doing other underhanded things, like entering an on-line tournament with different names so he could play himself and win.
Patty Geoffrey and Paul Weaver can fill in a lot of details about his scams, but there were many and he sure wasn't smart of hiding them.
