I could come up with just as many negatives about using dice and a cup. Actually, more, and more of my negatives would be valid. I can also come up with a list of negatives for playing on a board vs. a computer. Or for playing inside instead of outside. Or for playing inside instead of outside. Or for playing on green chairs instead of red ones.
In any argument, it should be assumed that the word "reasonable" be applied, and it should be assumed that when there is an alternative to something else, we are not talking about which one is "perfect" without any potential flaws....we are talking about which one is better than the other.
Again, Joe Russell (and others) have already given the many reasons baffle boxes offer advantages over rolling...nobody claims it is the total, perfect solution. There are solutions that come closer to eliminating all potential problems, but those clearly do drastically change the game and would take away from the enjoyment. Having a neutral, assigned person do all the rolling; using a baffle tube with sealed die; using a bingo-style number generator to provide the rolls; and many others that would virtually eliminate all possible objections, except the player doesn't get to roll the dice at all....the baffle box is clearly a compromise between the current system and those alternatives.
It is a reasonable compromise that produces very reasonable safeguards, and to offer unreasonable "possible" and far-flung hypotheses of things that could potentially be a problem without comparing each of those to the problems of the current method is simply not a valid approach to comparing the two alternatives.
