I am please to hear more all the time about how Extremegammon is faring well in test after test. Yes, it is new, and it is a work in progress that is consistently being improved, but it is inexpensive, far easier to use than GNU, has a lot of great features, it is faster, and has a lot of excellent features to help players understand positions. Most importantly to advanced players, it is turning out to be quite accurate.

I also want to remind you of the test Mike Corbett and I conducted. Mike selected the 15 most complicated positions from his book that he found had difficulty with in the eval, and we tested them on Extremegammon 3 ply to compare. Extreme got 11 of the 15 correct that Snowie 3 ply got wrong.

The rollouts turned out to be as good or better than GNU in all 15 cases.

This is a test that anyone can replicate, as I have posted the actual page numbers of the positions from Mike's book.

Again, this is not definitive proof that Extremegammon is better than Snowie, but just one of many tests that have been done that suggest that EX is better.

Enough top players have started using Ex, with satisfaction, to where I believe it will eventually be the bot of choice. Neil K. has recently stated he is happy to go on record endorsing Ex.

And yes, I am prejudiced...I helped in the development of the program, I help promote it, and I have a financial stake in people buying it. But my financial stake is very small...I am promoting Ex because I think it is very good for backgammon, particularly for the intermediate players and less technologically advanced players (like myself) who can use this program much more easily than GNU or Snowie. And I want to see the developers of EX be successful because I like them and appreciate their efforts to build a better mousetrap.
