Clocks + Random Dice Generator ?

Again, I don't see that either is clearcut. Both require trust.

As an example, right now we trust dice manufacturers. How many people (besides the obvious looking at the spots) could determine if they are fair?

For Max's device, is it sufficient to show that changing the seed produces a different sequence? Couldn't one side be programmed for biased dice in general, regardless of the seed entered? (Here I'm assuming something simple, like weighted dice. It is true that if you need an ace to hit and your dice have fewer than 1/6 aces you are screwing yourself in that instance. But in the long run...?) You might have to have a way to tell it which side you were playing -- toggling the on-off sequence for example. Or holding one plunger down for 3 seconds after turn-on (requiring the clock to be turned off-on before a 3 second hold-down would change the settings).

In any case it would take a lot of effort to re-engineer a working (fair) device. But even with the open system, it would help to trust the manufacturer in the first place, so it seems like we're back to that. Or is there an easy way to determine if the dice are unbiased that I'm missing?
