The chouette of my dreams

No settlements until the cube is at 4 or higher.
No problem by me.
Mandatory extras—if you drop a cube and someone else takes, you must give an extra and they must take it.
Surely you mean when there's only one taker or something. I'm not playing in a chouette where I am forced to give an extra every time I drop. Is your goal to create a fun environment or to punish bad decisions? Isn't losing enough punishment for bad decisions? You really want to ratchet that up?
Equal action on the cube—it really is “nasty” to consistently pick on the weaker player and give “gifts” to the stronger players and force them to sit most of the games on the sidelines.
What difference does it make if you forbid consulting, which to me is the only reason I'd want to play in a chouette. My limited experience with non-consulting chouettes has led me to conclude that I'd rather pick up trash on the side of a freeway.
Since you want to punish bad play, why not just allow split action, which is almost guaranteed to be wrong.
No consulting—depending on the players, consulting chouettes can be worse than listening to people blabbing on and on in doubles matches. With no consulting you cut down on tedious arguments and ego-positioning and bravado and hurt feelings, but you also get in a lot more games in the course of the session.
I'd rather ban idiots.
A better solution is to force people to bet on positions. The captain can make whatever play he likes, but must accept a wager on the correct play if somebody disagrees and the captain wants to end debate.
I'm never playing in a non-consulting chouette again, EVER. It just seems so dumb to me.
Retaining the box should not just be about beating the Captain, but also winning points.
I'm ambivalent.
Equal stakes for all...it simply leads to hard feelings,
If you've seen it happen, then sure...
the artificial creation of a hierarchy,
Not sure what that means.
and more difficult scoring.
It's just arithmetic... let me know if you need some help solving a nonlinear partial differential equation when you score that chou.
Winner treats
I don't drink, so I'm getting stiffed on this one. Count me out.
Penalty for leaving
I couldn't have even made this one up.
