ruling in Madison

I just think I'm just repeating myself, thus the end-of-thread for me.
I don't think codifying legal plays makes any sense as there is no way to tell if someone fails to follow the rule. I don't think I should be responsible for correcting my opponent's sloppy play. If there is any defect in the current rule, is that there is no penalty for making an illegal play that is in the player's favor. However, this would call for a STRICTER rule, not a more lenient one, (where players are let off the hook every time with no penalty.)
But again, I'm just repeating myself. And yes, I am still completely unconvinced of any rationale or benefits for codifying legal plays.
