There are numerous reasons why spectators should not inject themselves into matches, whether by voice, gesture or whatever. Yes, I agree that this was not a great idea.

That said, I believe that anyone whose job it is to watch the match such as a recorder or a monitor authorized by the director should be expected to point out any time that they observe an illegal play has been made, whether or not "legal plays" have been agreed to. Nobody making an illegal play should benefit from it, unless their opponent is aware of the illegal play and is stupid enough to let it stand. So I think the opponent should be made aware that he has the choice to make by any recorder or official monitor.
