Duplicate backgammon?

In Response To: Duplicate backgammon? (Timothy Chow)

I have produced duplicate backgammon, complete with a scoring system. I show the position and ask players to mark their sheet with their play. I then give them 10 points for the best play and so on down. Then I make the play the computer says is best and bring up the next roll and we do it all again. Everyone is making plays on exactly the same positions.

I recently changed this process....instead of 10 points for the best play, I have given 10 points only if the best play is truly a difficult choice. I may award only 5 points for the best play, and if the play is forced, I award 0 points.

I choose the rolls in advance, and I intentionally pick rolls that are challenging and make players choose not only between plays, but between different concepts of play.

It is clearly challenging and interesting and educational as well, as after taking the quiz, I go through the positions and discuss the plays.
