That no one knows how to do this is inaccurate.

The makers of XG know how to do this. GNU is Open Source and any programmer can access its playing engine. The same is not true of XG. If the XG people were so inclined they could easily code XG to play GNU, run such a session and publish the resulting games so that anyone could analyze them. This of course takes time and effort and so there is no reason for them to do this unless it was something of interest to them.

As XG is proprietary, I am sure that they would not want to expose their playing engine as an API so that anyone could do this. But that would be another way.
