Gregg asks (Phil): if all these things you listed are different, what features on the FM board makes it appear to be a copy or knockoff of a Taki board?
Seems to me that -- going by Phil's descriptions and online photos at fmgammon and chicagopoint -- the two boards do differ in several ways. The Turkish board supposedly: has no "artistic inlaid woodworking around playfield"; is heavier; measures 12.2 x 20.5 inches (closed) instead of 15 x 21 inches; has a synthetic playing surface; has checkers of different design and manufacturer; has better-made joints, has thicker, heavier handles; has different locks and hinges; has smaller checker trays; and has (in one photo) side compartments for holding dice.
Seems to me, also, that any well-made, well-designed and well-proportioned board with all-hardwood construction and 1.75" checkers is going to be similar to others.
That said, however, the rounded-bottom design of the points on the Taki board seems distinctive and unlike any I recall seeing elsewhere. The Turkish board points appear to be very similar if not identical. If the design of the Taki points was unique, then this similarity on the Turkish board says "Look, I'm a Taki copy board!" to me.
