If the XG people were so inclined they could easily code XG to play GNU, run such a session and publish the resulting games so that anyone could analyze them.

Yes. Let me just add that if this were to be done, I would suggest having XG and GNU play each other head-to-head not just from the opening position, but from other positions (e.g., the Depreli positions) which are known to be subtle. The games would be played out both ways, of course (i.e., switching sides). If one bot were better at certain kinds of positions while the other was better at other kinds, such tests might reveal this fact, whereas playing out only the opening position would not.
