Chouette Ruling

dc-ohio: "Seems to me like that with a stake in the game, the outside player and anyone else still with a $$$ interest in the game should be paying more attention. The box made his cube play, the capt dropped, the outside doubled player and others in the game should be standing there watching, not off having a coffee away from the table. How can 3 other players (not counting the capt as he was probably standing up) not see a roll if they are paying attention?"
I have been playing in chouettes for over 40 years. I have played in just about every city in the U.S. I have NEVER played in a chouette where every player is intently watching the board every minute of every game. I have never seen a situation where, when players are switching sitting down, that the player coming in always has his eyes on the board. People do talk; they take a drink; they look at a pretty girl (or whatever your preference is) walking by. They don't expect that something will be happening on the board when there is nobody in the chair.
AND EVEN IF ALL PLAYERS DID WATCH INTENTLY, are you honestly defending someone who rolls before his opponent sits down? And not only does he roll, but he moves the checkers and picks up his dice?
Sorry, I don't know who you are or what your experience is, but I question your experience in this matter. Do you honestly defend this activity, or are you just looking for a reason to come up with another opinion for the sake of argument?
I don't believe the question was whether or not an offense happened. The question was whether or not there was an adequate rule in place to appropriately handle the offense.
