In the 70's some of us made this play, thinking it had similar merits to slotting the 5-point. But the 4-point ain't the 5-point. I recall some replies to opening where the RO's show this play to be best, but I'm surprised it's worth it in the opening.

FW my memory's W, I recall Neil saying that a good way to take advantage of a weak opp is by getting into a running game when you are ahead, as weak players don't know how to defend this. Such would have been blasphemy in the 70's. So unless my recent memory is playing a trick on me, risking getting sent back by making a technically inferior play takes away some of this racing game equity.

I'll be interested in hearing others defend this opening play.
